The Vehicles in Transport Tycoon
All vehicles in Transport Tycoon are based on real ones (except
developments after 2000 of course!) For some reasons the vehicles
have been renamed to false ones, but still have a fair degree
of similarity to the original. I played a game and renamed the
vehicles: Here is some information about Transport Tycoon Vehicles
and their real life equivalents.
Definitions:
- Speed: This is the top speed the vehicle is allowed
to travel at while in commercial use. Don't forget it needs to
accelerate to this speed, and when going up hills or going round
corners it has to slow down, and needs time to accelerate beck
up.
- Life: This is the aproximate life expectancy of the
vehicle. Once past its designed life span, although its reliability
will be full after a service, the reliability drops of a lot faster
after each service. They need to be serviced more often.
- Power: This is how powerful the vehicles are, and how
it translates into how quickly they can accelerate to their top
speed, and how fast they can climb hills.
- Weight: Heavy vehicles will accelerate more slowly
and climb hills more slowly than light vehicles. However it is
the weight of the whole train that counts so don't forget to check
that.
- Designed: When the vehicle was designed. Vehicles designed
very recently are likely not to be very reliable as they may still
have bugs that need sorting out. On the other hand vehicles designed
a very long time ago are often unreliable as they are unsuitable
in the modern time period.
- Reliability: This is given as a % and it means how
many vehicles you would expect to work at a given time. An 85%
reliability means at any given time you would expect 85% of those
vehicles to be working.
- Capacity: This is a measure of how much cargo the vehicle
can hold. When a N/A is given the vehicle cannot hold anything
and is just provided for power (most train engines)
