Using the scenario editor to edit saved games

You can use the scenario editor in transport tycoon deluxe and transport tycoon scenario to modify saved games. You have to convert your saved game into a scenario, play with it and convert it back. The advantages of this is that you can place industries where you like for free, and place towns where you like for free, and expand towns you have a passenger service to. Also because time is frozen, you none of the vehicles have to pay their running costs but they still get the money from trips, so you can accumulate money a lot better. However, landscaping you have to pay for, and there are a few bugs, if you try to delete a town you cannot get rid of all the buildings, and any tracks with level crossings on will be taken over by local authorities.

How to do it:

There are two ways of converting a saved game to a scenario and vice versa. This can be done manually as outlined below. However, Sid DT has written a program which does this automatically - further details can be found here

When playing in TTD, Save your game to a known directory eg c:\mps\ttdlx\games.

Exit to dos. In the following writing in bold is what you have to type in. Preceding writing appears normally at the dos prompt:

  • C:\>CD\mps\ttdlx\games
    C:\mps\ttdlx\games>dir *.sv1
  • It will then list a whole series:

  • trt00.sv1
    trt01.sv1
    trt02.sv1
    trt03.sv1… etc.
  • Now make sure there are no saved scenarios in the directory before you do this.

Look at the last number listed. In the case I have give in is trt03.sv1. now type in:

  • C:\mps\ttdlx\games>copy trt03.sv1 trt04.sv1
  • This makes a backup of your saved game in case something goes wrong. Now type:

  • C:\mps\ttdlx\games>ren trt03.sv1 trt00.sv0
  • That’s it. Now start up TTD and go to create scenario, click load scenario and you should be able to load your saved game into the scenario editor.

One you have finished playing around, save your game again (on top of your current game.) Now type in:

  • C:\mps\ttdlx\games>ren trt00.sv0 trt03.sv1
  • Now start up TTD, you should find two games you can load, one is the backup (trt04.sv1) and the other is your edited one (trt03.sv1) you can then load it.
