Cheat Programs

There are programs written by computer programmers who have taken a fancy to TTLX and decided it would be fun to play about with the TTD program itself. Below I have outlined what the programs do and where to find them:

Aron Spohr's cheat programs

Aron Spohr has made three programs so far. One gives you billions by blowing trees. The other gives you access to all technology (including maglev) from the moment you start the game. The other sets the running cost and price of all vehicles to zero. These cheat programs do no make backup copies so before hand I suggest you make a backup copy of TTD. This is easy, just type at the Dos promt:

C:\>cd \mps\ttdlx
C:\mps\ttdlx>
copy ttdx.exe ttdx.000

Remember if you keep TTD in a different directory from the default c:\mps\ttdlx\ remember to type your own directory instead. Run the cheat programs once you have made this backup. If it doesn't work or you don't want the cheats go to the promt and type:

C:\mps\ttdlx>del ttdx.exe
C:\mps\ttdlx>
ren ttdx.000 ttdx.exe

This should restore everything to normal provided you have backed up the file as shown above. The programs can be found at Aron Spohr's website on ttd at

Dan Mullin's TTD Alter

This program allows you to change the specifications of vehicles in TTD. You can make the Kirby paul tank have a top speed of 20,000mph and make the Centinnial have a wieght of 1 ton. Aircraft can be made into helicopters with up to a 5,000 capacity. You can incease the capacity of your trains to 255 people per passenger car. Make the wooden bridges accept speeds over 2,000mph. This program is brilliant. It automatically makes a back-up copy of TTDX which is called TTDX.OLD, which you would have to rename TTDX.EXE if the program broke your game. There is only one problem and that is you need to know which version of TTD you have. This can be found out easily like so:

As shown above, go to the question mark on the right hand of the screen, click on it and select from the menu the option "About 'Transport Tycoon'" as highlighted above. Once you have done this it should open a new window:

This window contains the information you need. I have circled the information you need in yellow. The date shows the last time the program was modified. As you can see I have the version 6th October 1995. The program TTD Alter caters for this version of TTD and the version 21st September 1995, and when you run the program you must select which one is yours. If your version of TTD is different from these two then TTD alter will not work for you, but you can send your TTDX.exe to Dan Mullin, and he claims he will modify his program for all versions of TTDX.exe that are sent to him. Sid DT's scenario/game converter

This is an excellent little program sent to me by Sid DT. Now as explained on my scenario cheat page, you can use the scenario editor to edit your saved games. However, this requires a long and tiresome process of finding your required game, renaming it, running the editor then going back, renaming it again and starting TTD. This program is useful in that all that renaming is done for you. You still must exit TTD, but it is a lot more simple since you can choose the saved game you want to convert from a menu, and then it is done. This is easier than having to muddle around in DOS.
