Introduction

An In-Game Screenshot This is a truly remarkable game, I have always been a fan of strategy, but this game takes things to extreme. You are a business tycoon, who builds transport networks, surprisingly enough. The thing is, it sounds rather dull but that could not be further from the truth. Every time you start a new game, you have a completely new landscape, the towns and industry are in very different places, so each new game takes on a life of its own. Also it is a constructive game, I get a real sense of achievement when I complete a large network. Once you have done that you can sit back and watch it all in action, it is visually appealing. The graphics in this game have a very solid and pleasant look, check out the Screenshots. As for the wonderful music, a whole range of midi sound tracks, this is midi which sounds lovely on all sound cards. Considering it only costs £15 I only wonder why everyone doesn't have it. I need feedback about this site, so please send me your comments. When you are through here, why not visit the rest of my homepage. If you are interested in high speed trains, look at my fast trains section.

The Different Versions of Transport Tycoon

In the beginning there was plain and simple transport tycoon. It was great, and then they updated it, added a scenario editor along with a Martian graphics set. This allowed you to play god, put all the industries and towns where you wanted them, model the landscape without restriction. However the real breakthrough came with the arrival of Transport Tycoon Deluxe. This meant slightly more lush graphics, more music tracks, but more importantly 3 new worlds. Now you could set up transport services across desert and rainforest, across the ice on high northern mountains, and the bracken of Canada. Unlike the Martian Graphics set, this was much more than a graphics set, different climates had different industries to connect, and had different strategies as well. There is also a toyland climate, although I am not so keen on that one, as one of the things I like about transport tycoon is its realisticness, you loose that in toyland. What's new.

Due to repeated requests I have decided to add this section as of Tuesday, August 26, 1997. Updates:

Attention to Detail

This has wonderful detail, such as the fact you can flood land by lowering it next to water, also trees will grow all the time, and you can plant them and watch them grow before your eyes. However, local authorities have their opinions, they are very environmentally conscious, you cut down too many trees and they will not like you. In fact they may even stop you building your station, so watch out. High ratings with the council allows you to destroy a lot of buildings in town, useful when you need somewhere to put a passenger station. Ratings improve by providing a reasonable service in the area, or planting a lot of trees in the area. Another fascinating thing is the Lumber mill, environmentalists won't like this... you can fund the construction of a lumber mill in the surrounding rainforest. This will cost a lot of money, however in hot climate wood is the best paid commodity around. The lumber mill works by cutting down the rainforest around. It has a fairly high production too, so it gives a wood service a tidy profit, making the initial investment worthwhile. However, after about 30 or 40 years, all the rainforest in its threshold is gone, production drops dramatically, occasionally stops all together. You get around this by planting lots and lots of trees, while they are cut down, it gives the rainforest time to re-establish, well, it gets complicated!

A questionnaire

In order to improve my web pages on the Internet I need feedback from everyone who looks at these pages so if you could take a couple of minutes to fill out my form I would much appreciate it.

About these Web pages

The purpose of these web pages is to promote transport tycoon and to provide a resource for the online community. I have written these web pages entirely by myself using various things such as old friednly notepad and Microsoft Frontpage Express (its free!). The frames have been designed for Internet explorer 4 at 600x800 resolution or higher, although I have tried to make it as netscape friendly as possible. I don't believe in legal disclaimers. I am not so paranoid that I worry someone across the other side of the world is going to sue me for a mispelling! I have tried to make this a site which has what everyone wants, without trying to compete with other TTD pages. (It is silly to duplicate information that is already on the net). Comments and suggestions related to the site are welcome: webmaster@o-keating.com

One thing. DO NOT ASK ME TO SEND YOU COPIES OF TTD! I WON'T DO IT

Chris Sawyer

Chris Sawyer (the auther of transport tycoon) is on the internet and has released his e-mail address for which he can be contacted for questions relating to transport tycoon:

Please note that this is the address to use, some sites may still advertise his address as cws@aol.com - do not use this one since it will become disfunctional sometime in the end of June 98.

His first appearence on the internet was in late Autumn of 1997 when he contacted Thor Hovden (runs the transport tycoon fan club) and set up the "Chris Saywer Channel". Since his e-mail address is now on public release the Channel is no longer functional, but worth a look:

Hoaxes

There have been two hoaxes to my knowledge. Chris Sawyer has confirmed these as hoaxes:

Download Transport Tycoon Demo:

Here you can download a demo of Transport Tycoon (Original Version) You are limited to only 2 years of play and you cannot use anything other than trains although the competition can use everything

I have also a saved game for the demo version which you can download here.

Buying Transport Tycoon

Don't get TTD Illegally!

I really would urge people wanting TTD not to download it illegally since that means Chris Sawyer will miss out on the income he might have recieved should you have bought a legitimate copy. We want to make sure Chris gets money from TTD otherwise he might not have an incentive to make any sort of sequel to TTD!

Where to buy TTD

Transport tycoon deluxe (and original) can be purchased from the American based online superstore CDMag.com:

Also transport tycoon original with scenario editor and martian graphics can be purchased from www.reserve.co.uk, which is a British based online superstore.

If you know of any other online shop that has TTD in stock please let me know so that I can share this information with those interested.

If all else fails then try Microprose, who make and market the game who you can contact for information on the whereabouts of copies of TTD:
