These are the most common vehicles along electrified line in the UK. EMUs are not fast enough to be used for Inter-city services, the slower ones are used for very local services.

The High Speed Train, the Eurostar is in fact classed as an EMU. This is perhaps because it is permanently attached and consists of two power cars. It is designated as class 373
The Class 486 is the slowest operating train in the UK with a top speed of only 45mph, 72kph. This is because they were built in 1938 and only serve railways on the Isle of white, which is only a few miles across so speed isn't an issue at all.
